About this blog

This blog is the content hub for Chinese Copilot's free HSK Placement Test, a recognition-only check for English-speaking L2 learners. Posts here explain how we think about HSK labels, what a placement estimate can and cannot prove, and how to use the test without treating it like an official exam.

You will find notes on placement methodology (the full rules live on the methodology page), plain-English guides to what HSK 1–6 roughly feel like in daily study, and careful comparisons of HSK 2.0 versus the newer three-stage, nine-level HSK 3.0 framework. We keep a separate HSK 2.0 test for learners who study with HSK 1–6 levels, and a separate HSK 3.0 test built from the 2025 official HSK exam syllabus word list, rather than converting one result into the other.

If you are choosing a textbook band, preparing for a real sitting, or simply want a quick check before the next study block, start with a guide below or take the placement test and come back here to interpret what the estimate means. New posts stay practical: how sampling works, why HSK 2.0 and HSK 3.0 results are kept separate, and how to read an estimate without confusing it for an official certificate.
