It depends on the date of your sitting. CTI Co., Ltd. (CTI), which organizes the HSK, says HSK 3.0 will be officially launched worldwide on 13 December 2026 (CTI notice). Until then, regular sittings use the HSK 2.0 format, according to HSK Lord, a third-party prep site (updated 27 September 2026), which puts the last global HSK 2.0 sitting on 7 November 2026. CTI's notice doesn't name a last HSK 2.0 date, and individual centers' schedules can differ, so confirm with your test center.
The 2025 HSK exam syllabus, published by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) in November 2025, has an implementation date of July 2026 on its cover. That is the document's date, not the exam switch. For what actually changes between the two frameworks, see HSK 2.0 vs HSK 3.0: What's Changing?.
The tests on this site are recognition checks, not exams. They do not produce a score report. The methodology page says what they measure.
Which version matches your sitting
| Sitting date | Version | What to study | Test on this site |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 7 November 2026 | HSK 2.0, according to HSK Lord (third party). Confirm with your test center. | Six-level HSK 1–6 materials | HSK 2.0 test |
| From 13 December 2026 | HSK 3.0, per CTI's notice | The 2025 syllabus word lists, from Level 1 up (all HSK 3.0 lists) | HSK 3.0 test |
GoEast Mandarin's 2026 calendar also has 7 November as the last Levels 1–6 date before 13 December. HSK Lord adds that CTI has not published anything about HSK 2.0 after 7 November 2026, or a 2027 calendar yet. If your date isn't covered here, read the version off your own registration.
Registration deadlines
For the 13 December 2026 sitting, CTI's notice gives the registration period in Beijing time:
- Paper-based test: until 24:00 on 16 November 2026.
- Computer-based test: until 24:00 on 3 December 2026.
Register online at the Chinese Test Service Website (www.chinesetest.cn), where you can find the test centers in your country. Before you rely on any calendar, check the booking itself:
- Read the test date.
- Read which papers it includes, including speaking.
- If the center's dates differ from the global dates above, follow the center.
Local deadlines can be earlier. For example, the Business Confucius Institute at AUEB in Athens says its 13 December 2026 session will be held under HSK 3.0, with enrollment and payment open from 16 October to 16 November 2026. Places are limited, and once the center reaches its approved capacity the platform may stop taking new Athens registrations before that deadline.
Speaking on HSK 3–6
The Athens center says that under HSK 3.0, candidates for HSK Levels 3–6 register at the same time for the matching speaking test: HSK 3 + HSK 3 Speaking, HSK 4 + HSK 4 Speaking, and so on up to HSK 6 (AUEB notice). That is one test center's notice, but it matches the second global trial round: CTI's trial notice (in Chinese) required HSK 3–6 to be registered together with the matching speaking test for the 20 September 2026 trial. Check whether speaking is included in your own registration.
FAQ: test dates and registration
When is the first official HSK 3.0 exam? 13 December 2026, the date CTI's notice gives for the official worldwide launch. HSK Lord says trial sittings of the new exam ran earlier, on 31 January 2026 and 20 September 2026.
What are the registration deadlines, and in which time zone? Beijing time: paper-based until 24:00 on 16 November 2026, and computer-based until 24:00 on 3 December 2026 (CTI notice). The notice says registration runs "from now until" those deadlines and gives no separate opening date. Your center may close earlier.
When is the last HSK 2.0 sitting? HSK Lord (third party) says 7 November 2026. CTI's launch notice doesn't give a last HSK 2.0 date, so confirm with your test center.
Do I have to take the speaking test? For HSK 3–6 under HSK 3.0, the Athens center says you register for the matching speaking test at the same time, and CTI's trial notice required the same pairing in the second global trial. Both mention it only for HSK 3–6. Check your registration.
What if my center's dates differ? Follow your center's own notice. Athens, for example, opens enrollment on 16 October 2026 and may close before its 16 November deadline once it is full (AUEB).
What about HSK 7–9? HSK Lord says HSK 7–9 is a separate test, held on 9 May 2026 and 22 November 2026 this year, and describes the 13 December 2026 sitting as HSK 1–6.
Which practice test should I use? For a sitting up to 7 November 2026, the HSK 2.0 test; from 13 December 2026, the HSK 3.0 test. Both are vocabulary recognition checks, not mock exams.
