This privacy notice explains how Chinese HSK Placement Test (a product of Chinese Copilot) handles information when you use the free recognition check. The product is designed to stay lightweight on personal data. There is no account system, no login, no email signup wall, and no profile database on our side that stores your vocabulary answers. Product context lives on the about page; support scope is described on contact.

Session storage only for answers. Test answers and in-progress state are kept in your browser’s sessionStorage for the current tab session. That lets you refresh mid-test without losing progress, but closing the tab or clearing site data removes the answers. We do not sync answers to a cloud account, and we do not require you to create a username. If you open the site in a private window, treat that session as ephemeral by design.

Optional preference flags (for example preferring an HSK 3.0 results headline) may use localStorage on this device so the choice persists between visits. That preference data stays local to your browser; clearing site data or switching devices resets it. We do not use local preferences to build a cross-site advertising profile.

Cookies and similar tech. The core placement experience does not depend on third-party advertising cookies. The hosting platform or edge network may set strictly functional cookies or use similar request identifiers for security, load balancing, or abuse prevention. We do not run a separate marketing pixel from this app specifically to track which Chinese words you marked as known.

We do not sell your data. We do not operate a learner CRM from this app, we do not sell answer content or personal profiles, and we do not share your recognition responses with advertisers for targeting. If that stance ever changes in a material way, we will update this page before collecting new categories of personal data for those purposes.

Hosting. The site is typically served via Vercel (or a similar host). Hosts may collect standard request logs and platform analytics — for example IP address, user agent, approximate geography derived from IP, referrer, and request paths — under their own privacy policies. We do not use those logs to reconstruct individual learners’ vocabulary answer keys or to publish identifiable result pages. Your recognition answers are not uploaded to a shared results backend; they stay in the browser session as described above.

Children’s note. The product is a general educational tool. It is not directed at children under 13 as a social network or messaging service, and it does not knowingly collect contact details from children.
